What you’ll need to do

For the first time, real estate agents, lawyers and conveyancers will fall under Australia’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) laws for all property transactions.

From 1 July 2026, you’ll be required to:

  • Verify each client’s identity before a transaction
  • Keep accurate, auditable records of those checks
  • Create and maintain an AML/CTF compliance program
  • Report suspicious or unusual activity to AUSTRAC
